The Moore County Concert Band will present a concert of music by American composers in the Grand Ballroom of the Carolina Hotel at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 4. Conductor David Seiberling has selected traditional patriotic tunes and familiar works from a variety of musical venues.

The band will present familiar marches by John Philip Sousa and Henry Fillmore, as well as a new and original composition: “The Chairman,” written by David Seiberling. Familiar Broadway melodies by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe will be highlighted along with the sounds made popular by Richard and Karen Carpenter, better known as “The Carpenters.” Toe tappers will also enjoy the lively tunes of Leroy Anderson.

The band will also introduce and accompany guest soloist and newcomer to the Sandhills, Tawnia Jones, singing George and Ira Gershwin’s melodic “Someone To Watch Over Me” and “But Not For Me.”

The traditional “Armed Forces Salute” and Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” will round out the concert.

“The band is extremely grateful for the generous support it has received over the years from the Sandhills community, and invites the public to enjoy this free concert,” says Seiberling. “The Moore County Band encourages and welcomes anyone who plays, or has played, a band instrument to join.”

Rehearsals are held at the Sandhills Community College, Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m., September through June.
