College Offers Computer Classes

Personal computers are a major tool in use every day, and everyone seems to want to know more about computers and the programs that run them.

Sandhills Community College will offer several computer courses during the month of July.

"Windows Vista/Windows 7-Level 2" will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays, July 7 through Aug. 11, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Registration is $65 (waived for those 65 and older) plus a $5 technology fee that must be paid by all. The prerequisite for this course is "Windows Level 1."

"iMovie," Apple's movie creation application, will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, July 19 through Aug. 4, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Registration for the course is $65 (waived for those 65 and older) plus a $5 technology fee that must be paid by all. The prerequisites for this course are "Using Your Macintosh" and "Mac Applications."

"Windows Movie Maker" will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 29 through Aug. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. Movie Maker allows users to create professional presentations. Students will learn how to import and organize photos and video clips into a story line, use professional transitions and panning effects, and overlay background music or commentary. Registration for the course is $60 (all must pay, no waiver for age). The prerequisite for this course is "Windows Level 1" or prior computer experience.

"iPhoto," Apple's image management application, will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, July 26 through Aug. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. iPhoto allows users to import photographs from cameras or disks, edit photographs using basic image editing tools, and create albums and slide shows that can be published on the Internet or saved to a file. Registration for the course is $65 (waived for those 65 and older) plus a $5 technology fee that must be paid by all. The prerequisites for this course are "Using Your Macintosh" and "Mac Applications."

Register at least a week before the first day of the class. Walk-in registration and payment can be made at the Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. There is no registration on Friday.
