Keith and Georgeanne McDaniel will be at the Senior Enrichment Center Thursday, June 24, at 3 p.m. to present a program on the vast world of olive oils.

The couple's appreciation of good food and wine - and love for cooking - led them to open Green Gate Olive Oils in the -village of Pinehurst.

"We offer about 40 olive oil and vinegar products," Keith McDaniel says. "Our oils and vinegars are stored in stainless steel containers called fustis, imported from Italy, to preserve their delicate flavors. Once you have selected your favorites, we will bottle and seal them on-site to ensure their freshness and good taste."

In addition to adding depth to the flavor of food, olive oil offers many health benefits. Scientists have proven that substituting olive oil for other fats in the diet may keep hearts healthy, reduce inflammation, lower the risk of certain cancers, and assist with controlling diabetes and weight gain. Olive oil lowers LDL cholesterol without affecting HDL cholesterol.
