Flower Power
The Sandhills Horticultural Society and the Sandhills Photography Club present a flower photography workshop at G. Victor and Margaret Ball Visitors Center on the campus of Sandhills Community College Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.
An opening session presenting the basics of flower photography will be followed by photographing in the gardens and end with a review of the photos.
Members of the Photography Club will assist with photo techniques. Newcomers to flower photography are welcome. Horticultural Society members are admitted free; the cost for nonmembers is $5.

Jewelry Showcase
The Arts Council of Moore County welcomes Carol Shannon and Perfect Presents from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 19.
Shannon will be showcasing unique fashion jewelry inspired by creations of noted jewelry designers.
In addition, Cynthia Pizzini will display wearable silk flowers, and Paula Montgomery will be painting in the gallery. Visitors can also view the mini-masterpieces from the 2010 Art Anonymous collection.
The Campbell House is located at 482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines.

‘Give Back’ Night
Chili’s, on U.S. 15-501 in Southern Pines, is hosting a “give-back” night Wednesday, June 23, in support of the BackPack Pals program for Moore County public school children.
BackPack Pals, a program of Moore County Schools, was created to meet the needs of children known to have little or nothing to eat on the weekend.
The program began in 2005 with one school and 25 children. Now, for 2009-2010, 700 children are in enrolled in the program at 21 schools. One hundred fifty volunteers assist in the program.
Chili’s is donating 10 percent of receipts placed in the donation bowl located at the front door of the restaurant to help with this program.
