The Pinehurst Rotary hosted its sixth annual Rotary Pancake Breakfast Saturday, May 29 — Memorial Day weekend.

This event was co-chaired by former Rotary President Dave Berger and current President Gary Williford.

Funds raised at the event benefited the Moore County Chapter of the Red Cross, the Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots project and the Pinehurst Rotary Foundation.

The highlight of the morning was the presentation of colors by the Marine Corps group at 10 a.m. The breakfast crowd stood and observed the color guard presentation and then joined in the Pledge of Allegiance. The ceremony closed with a presentation of a certificate of appreciation from the Marine Corps League to the Pinehurst Rotary Club.

The May 29 pancake breakfast was possibly the largest breakfast ever hosted by the Pinehurst Rotary. At least 400 people were served, and many patrons made charitable donations to the causes sponsored by the club in addition to the breakfast tickets they purchased.

Additionally the club held a raffle at the door where chances to win cash prizes were purchased.

Also assisting with the event was Sandhills Rotarian Buddy Spong, director of the local Red Cross, and other hardworking members of the Sandhills Rotary Club.
