Though some may believe that America was founded as a Christian country, I don’t.
Our “Founding Fathers” were immigrants to a country that already existed and had inhabitants who resided here for thousands of years. America was occupied by people who practiced numerous faiths other than Christianity. There were people who celebrated the tides and the new moon. There were others who worshiped the dawn and daybreak.
And, all inhabitants gave thanks for the deer, water and corn that sustained life. Whatever their beliefs were, they probably weren’t Christian. America was founded by many peoples, but it was the Indian or Native American who had settled this country long before our “Founding Fathers” arrived on her shores.
America is and always has been a country of people, not religion. Sure, people practice different faiths, and that’s what and how this country has evolved. The evolution of America is all about freedom, plain and simple. Whenever politics and religion enter the quotient there’s bound to be conflict and division. America was founded by people thousands of years ago who didn’t find it necessary to lay religious claim to her shores. Being an American and living in America is to be free.
Though my dad and I both fought in wars defending freedom and diversity, we are not Christians. We fought and continue to fight for freedom be it religious or anything else given us by our Constitution. We love this country, period. God bless America.

Steve, Thank you and your dad for serving our country. I absolutely mean that from the bottom of my heart.
Let me encourage you to read "The History of the American People" by British Historian Paul Johnson or "The Victory of Reason" by Rodney Stark (Prof. at Baylor University).
Additionally, I would love for you to read my book - "The Five Laws of Liberty" due to be released in July by AMG Publishers under their God and Country imprint.
If you have the time, please check out www.fivelawsofliberty.com, especially my last 2 blogs.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. If we all could use common sense and not rely on what other people have written or deem the final word, life would be much more satisfying for us all.

This country was indeed founded by men (white men) based on principles found in the bible. Seems that you are confused with the difference between a country and a continent. The native Americans (Indians) were exploited probably because they were not a country or nation. It is a shame what happened to the Native Americans but I believe most of them today are proud citizens of the United States of America and they fight along with white, black, and other Americans to protect our freedom. The founding fathers of this country were Christians but were not so adamant that all citizens of this new country had to have the same religious belief as theirs, unlike leaders in many countries. Religions change over time as do countries. Sometimes good and sometimes bad.
