Nothing Is Done to Protect Borders

Our country’s southwest border, which we fought for at the Alamo, is being invaded by illegals from many countries other than Mexico. Although for years numerous requests have been made for border protection, our leaders in Washington do nothing.
People’s property is being damaged, citizens are being murdered on their own property, and still nothing is being done. States are going bankrupt supplying aid of various kinds for these illegals that we taxpaying citizens are required to pay. Massachusetts is now stopping aid to illegals because of the financial burden to its state. Ohio is considering laws similar to Arizona.
I am not against people of any race or color, but I am against people entering our country illegally. Most immigrants, as my ancestors were, have come here in a proper manner, applied for citizenship, learned English and became citizens. Most countries have laws for entry; even when one travels to another country one must have identification.
China has its laws. Iran incarcerates if one strays over its border. To enter Mexico one must have identification. You are not welcome if you would be a burden to their economy, and if you enter illegally you will be incarcerated.
So I ask, how can illegals in the United States protest against laws they are breaking? Why is our government doing nothing to protect its citizens? We are a nation of laws that have withstood us well for more than 200 years, and our government chooses not to enforce them. I have made requests of the past two presidents to do their job and enforce those laws and protect our borders. Only one responded.
It will take more than just my request. Before our country is destroyed, write our president, congressmen and senators to enforce our laws and protect our country’s borders.

It's a money thing. Many Americans profit from illegals and the cheap labor they provide. All one needs to do is look around to see who these Americans are.
GoldenDreams 2 years, 11 months ago
Jamjam is correct. If these illegals did us no services, they would not be welcome and nor would they want to stay, plain and simple. But many illegals are working in our homes, paving our streets, picking our fruit, and working in our factories or sweat shops. They are doing work most Americans don't want. Until that changes, and I don't see how it will because they are part of our "system" now, illegals are here to stay.
GoldenDreams 2 years, 11 months ago
Drazil65, once again you are right on. It's all blame and no action from most citizens. Money talks. I teach children in a county other than Moore County and there are a lot of illegals residing there. We ask parents for social security numbers on forms and it just doesn't happen. Finally, we give up. We have to because there's no backing from administration. But the problem is everywhere: restaurants, construction companies, lawn services, etc. So Gloria Mack can write to our president or the previous one, but the problem is too wide-spread for quick results. There are more than the 20 million residing here illegally as the pundits predict, too. The question is, how do you deal with something so deep, systemic and far-reaching?
dustyrhoades 2 years, 11 months ago
No sane person is advocating just shooting unarmed illegals dead at the border, and there's not a fence made that can't be defeated. All that said, the best way to defend the borders is by adequately funding the Border Patrol, which successive administration, both Republican and Democrat, have failed to adequately do (even Obama's latest budget allows 180 agent jobs to be lost through attrition).

This is not immigration its an invasion.....do you think only Mexicans are coming across the border...this smacks of "the twin towers" all over again. This will be the next "surprise" attack against the United States. People we are no longer in control of our own country....ever watch the movie "Red Dawn" with Patrick Swayze? Its the play book. I'm just saying...
TheDirtyDizz 2 years, 11 months ago
Really? We are comparing illegal immigrants to terrorists? Come on now. I say make stricter security. I don't get what's so hard about that. Build a fence that's worth a damn, not some chain link nonsense. Build a wall if you have to, and have entrance/exit areas secured. That way it's a controlled thing, instead of the cluster**** we have now.

Hey DirtyDiz...Really? We are comparing illegal immigrants to terrorists? Remember the terrorists who flew the planes into the Twin Towers...did you know they were terrorists? Not until after the fact...they don't wear signs saying I'm a terrorist. Why are people being murdered in Arizona and Texas and by whom? Illegal immigrants....what does a terrorist look like? You need to wake up and look at what your government is doing, and WHY are they allowing this ? And its not so we have someone to pick vegetables or work at McDonald's. These are diversions just the same as a magician does ...he gets you to look away from what he's really doing. Many times a Government will create a problem and then offer a solution...the solution is the way the Government (those running the government)wanted you to go but you would of resisted so they create a problem so you WILLINGLY accept their solution. Example: Germany and the Jews...what was the solution ?Annihilation of the Jewish people, there are many other examples thru history. So ask yourself why are we allowing millions of people across our border? To get help for McDonald's , to pick veges , so we can get our lawns maintained There is no credible explanation why we are allowing the destruction of the economies of California, Arizona , Texas , New Mexico and our nation . Maybe its to allow others (non Mexican) into the US thru the backdoor so to speak with who knows ... maybe a nuke. Wake up America!

Are we back at this again??????? Simple solution to the problem:
1. All states should enact the same law as Arizona. Pretty soon they won't have anywhere to go but home. 2. Stop the government from "paying" illegals to have kids here in the US. (cost for the US taxpayer is 35K per year, per child) 3. All illegals caught committing a crime, or for entering the country illegally should immediately be deported and their dependent children (if any) should be placed up for adoption, or allowed to go back to their country with the parents. 4. Arrest and fine business owners and companies for hiring illegals.
Point to consider: If the government stops paying out tax dollars to illegals and their families, those funds can be re-allocated to strengthen the borders and pay deportation costs.

I agree that we can't tell if someone is a terrorist. That's true! But you know what? All the terrorists were here with a legal status. And yes, let's go ahead and shoot everybody that does not look like american. Even though if this person is 14 years old and he is at the other side of our border.

part 1.
Letter sent to one of our U.S. Senators and their response to my suggestion and questions.
Please accept my suggestions on, at least, one way we can cut the U.S. Federal Deficit. Stop or cut the “Foreign Aid”
Why is our Federal Government giving our tax dollars to other nations as “Foreign Aid”, while our own American citizens are losing their jobs and homes? Why is our Federal Government still securing (for the past 50 -60 years) the South Korean border, while our American borders are wide open (Does it take 50 - 60 years to train the Koreans to protect their own border) ?.
Who are our elected, in Washington, representing ? The American People and our borders or foreign nations and their people?
Below is a letter I received (in response to my suggestions and questions (above) that I sent) from one of our U.S. Senators with my response.
My Response: (Humanitarian Aid should be given, first, to our own citizens, especially our elderly and children that suffer in poverty)
My Response: (And we, the American taxpayer, has been rebuilding it for over 60 years)
My Response: (Sounds like blackmail; the USA gives them aid and they'll be peaceful toward us).
My Response: (While the USA's local infrastructure is crumbling). (Now the USA is paying them to be honest; total blackmail; and just what incentive is our USA Government providing to other countries? I would think that taking from our people that are in need and millions in poverty, to give aid to other nations, to rebuild and to feed and house their people, would be seen by others as the same as allowing your elderly and children to live in tents or on the street and go without food , clothing, medicine and heat and other necessities, while we provide for other nations as a very strange and violent people. Remember this guy? "Poverty is the worst form of violence." - Mohandas Gandhi.
lachm 2 years, 11 months ago
Part 2.
My Response: (That's great to help others, but we have millions of our own citizens in America that are in poverty and need help, "The Least Among Us" - Our elderly, our children and our unemployed). (Our own citizens can't get loans because they don't have jobs - so their families lose their homes and their children go without needed food)..(You were elected to represent the AMERICAN CITIZENS, not foreign nations).
My Response: (Our government has an obligation to our citizens first). (Our government should be more concerned about taking care of our own people than the American image abroad. If our government don't stop and rethink what's really important for our own people, and get our people out of poverty, then the IMAGE of America will be that of a third world country, with starving children and starving old people)
My Response: (is denying our poorer elderly a livable increase in Social Security, while giving our elected, that are now being paid over $170,000 per year an increase, fair and balanced? Our elderly, at least 60 - 70%, have to survive on $800 - $1200 per month; no one can survive on that, especially our elderly. Is that the "Death Panel" that some of the Republicans and some of the TEA Party people are talking about? That's what's happening, our poorer elderly are dying from lack of med., housing and food and so are allot of America‘s children). (I appreciate you taking the views into consideration, but these concerns are not my views, they are FACT and unless our government acts to help "The Least Among Us" soon, more will die, more will be without a home, more of our elderly and children will have no place to stay and no food.). This not only affects people in one state, it affects our entire nation.

The border's total length is 3,169 km (1,969 miles), according to figures given by the International Boundary and Water Commission.[1] It is the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with about 250 million people crossings every year. I agree that faithnusa has a valid point "This is not immigration its an invasion....."

I want you guys to look at the court record in todays Pilot, June 16th. Look closely at the latino names listed and notice how many have been charged with no operators license. This is weekly in the pilot. Do you think if they have no drivers license that they also dont have auto insurance? I bet if we had the death penalty for illegal immigration, you'd see a lot less of it. Execute a few in front of their families, then send the little ones back to tell the tale. The flood would dry up in a month. I guarantee it.

Has anyone ever wondered WHY someone would leave their home family and friends to go to another country where life is unfamiliar and try to find work even if it's illegal to support themselves? To me it's the small minded who think a fence is going to make a difference. These people can't find work in their own country to support their families so they risk everything to come here so they can survive. Imagine what it would take for you to make that decision to leave your country so your wife and children can have food and a home. You would have to be awfully desperate and willing to risk it all to do that and it would take great bravery on your part. Of course I agree that illegal criminals should be deported but why aren't we looking at the bigger economic issue Mexico is dealing with. We have so many smart and innovative leaders in this country who could partner with Mexico to develop an economic environment that could benefit everyone. Open the borders and allow a back and forth flow like we have with Canada and let people find work, pay their taxes and not be the scapegoat for whatever we think is the cause of our struggles.
GoldenDreams 2 years, 11 months ago
PatriotDream, please tell me you're kidding or exaggerating for effect, right? If you're not, who in their right mind would condone killing someone for an illegal border crossing? What bothers me even more is to have it done in front of their little ones so they can go home and tell the tale? What's wrong with you? Is this what this beautiful country stands for? I think not! Get hold of yourself, please!
ButSeriously 2 years, 11 months ago
Sally, we've tried to work with Mexico regarding their issues, but they won't let us get involved unless it's simply monetarily. Also, we don't have an open border with Canada. I'm not sure when the last time you went to either of those countries, but you can drive into Mexico with a US Driver's License and return using the same credentials. You're required to provide a passport, submit to a criminal background check and questioning to gain access to Canada. Criminal history typically results in denial of entry into Canada.
The best idea that I've heard so far is to fine (or some other punishment) for companies/contractors that utilize the resources of illegal aliens. Make that fine high enough and you'll not only fund the border patrols, but you'll also discourage companies from hiring illegals. Reduce/eliminate the demand for illegal alien workers and the surplus of illegal alien workers will diminish. The last thing we need to do is jail illegal aliens for being here illegally. The only true punishment would be to send them home empty-handed.
PatriotDream 2 years, 11 months ago
GodlenDreams, defending our borders requires more than just politely asking these criminals to "run along home now" or sending them back in planes or air conditioned buses so they can turn around and scurry right back across the border, where they attach themselves to our society like leeches and suck it dry. This is a war for our survival, and it's time we started treating it like one.
"who in their right mind would condone killing someone for an illegal border crossing"? Anyone who cares about their country's existence as a country.

PatriotDream, I care about my country but I don't have to be a bully or use bully language. You sound pretty tough when you hide behind a screen name, but how tough are you face to face when you meet immigrants? Do you tell them the same things you say in your posts? Somehow I doubt it. That's another problem we have....how to have a civil discussion about a difference of opinion.

A lot of you who have posted on this subject are completly crazy. The armed ones really make me cringe. What a wonderful commentary on America: "Got a problem.....kill it!" Going back to the original letter that prompted most of this venom. "we fought at the Alamo to protect our borders". The battle at the Alamo occurred in 1836, Texas became a state in 1845. Since most of you don't let facts get in your way, this will mean very little to you. The bulk of those crossing the Mexican border are doing so to get work to support their families. Those who come because of the drug trade are doing so because there are huge fortunes to be made because this country has a very big appetite for illegal drugs. If you want to eliminate the crime associated with illegal aliens, put your efforts into eliminating the demand for drugs. If you are serious about completly closing our borders, you can start your efforts right here at home by asking to see the documents of each and every person you come into contact with on a daily basis. Illegal aliens are not just Hispanic so you don't have to discriminate....ask everyone to prove they are a citizen in good standing. If that's to much of an inconvenience for you, then maybe you should just stop talking about it.

someone commented up a little, about "who would execute a person just for illegally crossing the border"? Maybe they havent heard that there are 3 Americans sitting in an Iranian prison right now facing death for just that reason... For those who don't know, if you get caught sneaking into Mexico you get an automatic 2 year jail sentence FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE; if you get caught sneaking into Mexico a second time - its an automatic 10 YEAR JAIL SENTENCE! Still think WE are the irrational ones?
OldSpook 2 years, 11 months ago
RmeMP,
Yes, WE are the irrational ones! WE give them all sorts of benefits free of charge. WE educate their children. WE let them protest against us. And WE let their president into our congress to berate US and then applaud 'him' (very choice verbiage omitted)! So yes, we are the irrational ones who need to wake up and maybe adopt Governor Brewers (AZ) policy with regards to suspected illegals. From this morning’s paper I understand that VA is about to propose similar legislation. Perhaps NC could/should follow?

Many nations, including Mexico, have very tough immigration laws. It is not racist or wrong to enforce the laws we already have on the books. In fact failure to do so is criminal negligence on the part of the Federal Government.

We as a nation have become fat and lazy. This is a problem we brought on ourselves. Yes, it is a problem. Cheap labor equals higher taxes. Why don't we do what our fathers and grandfathers did and work! These people may not be terrorists, but they soak up tax dollars, bring drugs into our country, and kidnap fellow Americans (AZ). Besides all of that, they are ILLEGAL immigrants. Illegal being the key word. It is against our law, how about we enforce it.
martykilroy 2 years, 11 months ago
I welcome immigrants to this wonderful country. My own grandmother and her family immigrated from Germany in the early 1900's. However, illegal immigration is another matter completely. This week the local news has been filled with the story about the arrest of a huge counterfeiting ring operating in rural Georgia by, you guessed it, illegal immigrants. These people had been stealing legitimate social security numbers and forging new birth certificates, drivers licenses, and social security cards among other official documents. They had even been able to get government agencies to send them actual documents for those who were stealing our citizens' identities. Now they'll be deported. Whoop-di-do! They'll just come right back because we are doing nothing to stop them. Our federal government's primary responsibility is to protect the citizens of this country. They aren't even trying to do their jobs. It's too bad we can't sue congress for failing to uphold their contract with us.
ButSeriously 2 years, 11 months ago
JER wrote: "The bulk of those crossing the Mexican border are doing so to get work to support their families. Those who come because of the drug trade are doing so because there are huge fortunes to be made because this country has a very big appetite for illegal drugs."
...and they send that money back to Mexico. That's income generated in the US, not taxed, and then sent out of the country. They utilize our roads, schools, etc. without helping pay for them like a US Citizen would. I have a BIG problem with that. Honestly, it sucks for them that they were born into a country where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, but we as Americans have our own financial issues. I'm tired of seeing money delegated to other countries when we need the assistance here at home. So again, sucks for them and maybe when we're standing tall, we can help, but right now, we're on one knee struggling to stand.
As for the drug issue...Those that use Mexico as an avenue for transporting drugs are doing so because we cracked down on smugglers in the Caribbean in the 1980s. The demand for drugs is alive in every country.
Reality check; neither of these problems will ever "go away" as there are too many government jobs that rely on these issues. If we suddenly stopped the flow of illegals into the U.S., we couldn't validate the number of Border Patrol Officers, Helicopters, DEA Agents, Police, etc. Jobs would be lost and billions of dollars would diverted elsewhere. I won't get into the info, but I'll say this; What better job security than to always ENSURE that there is a reason for your job to exist.
JER 2 years, 11 months ago
ButSeriously: The money earned by those who have crossed the border to find work to support their families is at the bottom rung of the US pay scale and is money earned doing jobs that most actual citizens would not do for these wages. The amount sent back to their families in Mexico is what is left after they pay for their food (which is taxed), transportation (when they bought a car and gas to run it they payed taxes and provided income and a job to those who sold it to them) and housing (which may or may not have been taxed but it did provide income to the citizen who provided it to them). Your comment that they don't pay taxes is incorrect. They may not pay income taxes, but at their earning level, they would not be paying any if they were legal citizens. There are millions of US citizens, including some that are extremely wealthy, who do not pay income taxes. Do you feel that that also "sucks"?
You said "The demand for drugs is alive in every country". We can't control what goes on in other countries (although we certainly think it's our responsibility to do so) but we should be able to control what goes on in our own country. If you feel that illegal drugs are just a fact of life and we should just get used to it, then you are saying that we should not enforce the laws against it. Do you pick and choose what laws should be enforced and which ones should be ignored? Kick out the illegal aliens who are looking for work but go easy on the drug addicts because they can't help themselves, they have a medical problem that just needs treatment and understanding. When the demand for drugs goes away, the supply coming into the country will dry up, as will the crime and violence that goes with it. That is where our focus should be.
ButSeriously 2 years, 11 months ago
JER, very little money is spent by illegal immigrants in the U.S.. Immigrants that spend a lot of money here rather than send it back to Mexico are typically shunned by their peers. So the taxing of their food, housing and gas is minimal. They over-bed homes, carpool and prepare their own food. (NOTE: I'm not grouping ALL illegals into this category, but the majority). For most, this is a temporary solution to their monetary issues. They do not intend on remaining here their entire lives. My comment about them not paying taxes is still correct as the amount they pay in taxes is next to nothing. And in fact, they would pay a good deal to the IRS as they would be 1099 employees not W-2. Also, stating that they are taking the jobs that American's don't want to do is not true. Roofing, framing, cooking, cleaning, etc. are all tasks that Americans do well, but we expect fair pay for our work. Illegals know that they don't have much of a choice but to accept less pay for those positions due to their immigration status. Using your previous logic ("When the demand for drugs goes away, the supply coming into the country will dry up"): If the illegals weren't here, those jobs would pay better.
Do you blame the woman being robbed for wearing such expensive jewelry or the thief? What about the young lady wearing short shorts for being raped? If it's easy to do, then it's not your fault for falling prey to it even when it's wrong? Come on now. Drug addicts are bad. So are the people importing the drugs and selling them. I never condoned either the usage of drugs or the importing/selling of drugs. Both are bad, but I'm a realist. Dramatically reducing the sheer number of illegals entering the US will reduce the drug flow in this country, but it will never remove it. My point was that you'll have a much more daunting task of trying to eliminate all drug usage in the US rather than eliminating the importing of drugs (and therefore illegal immigrants) into the US.
