Irwin Takes Open Preliminary

Hillary Irwin, of State Road, was the runaway winner in the Open Preliminary division of the Lumber River Horse Trials at the Carolina Horse Park last weekend.
Riding the thoroughbred gelding Clifden, Irwin posted double clear cross-country and stadium rounds to finish on her dressage score (33.00).
Doreen Schlicht, of Southern Pines, and the 21-year-old veteran eventer Orange also finished on their dressage score (26.40) to win the Training Rider division.
The horse trials attracted 112 horse and rider pairings. The following results include the top three finishers in each division.

Novice Rider-A — Nicole Thomas on Top of the World, 33.50; Marena Campa on In Trouble On Sunday, 39.00; Sarah Brown on Townsend Hill, 43.60.
Novice Rider-B — Robert Bezzeg on Bedroom Pal, 37.00; Elizabeth Wyatt Adams on Written in Ink, 37.20; Lefreda Williams on Spice Girl, 39.10.
Open Novice — Andrew McConnon on FYI, 27.80; Andrew McConnon on Miss Marple, 27.80; Vicki Reynolds on Chub Cay, 32.80.
Beginner Novice Rider — Jamie Miess on In The Zone, 30.50; Alison Stackpole on Pay the Piper, 34.30; Halie Cunningham on Blue Legend, 40.20.
Open Beginner Novice — Caroline Dawson on Sapphire, 36.70; Heather King on Sunny Side, 39.70; Paul Pizza on Ringwood Deacon, 45.40.
