Music will fill a corner of downtown Southern Pines Saturday, June 12, when musicians take the stage for Pinestock, an all-day concert that will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sandhills.
The concert opens at noon, with youth bands performing until 2:30 p.m.
Admission is free for all young people during this portion of the day, although a $5 donation is suggested, according to a spokesman.
A dunking booth manned by local notables will be part of the entertainment, and a snow cone machine will be on-site.
The Cowboys, popular in the area for their country folk and country rock sound, kick off the adult segment at 2:30 p.m., followed by The Sand Band, best known for its beach music, but its repertoire also includes Motown and rock.
Steve Menendez and his group, The Lost Marbles, with surprise guests, will be next up with a Blues Brothers sound, complete with brass.
Craig Fuller, of Pure Prairie League, and his son, Patrick Fuller, an up-and-coming musician in his own right, will take the stage around 6:30 p.m. Craig Fuller has continued to perform and write songs over the years and still sometimes tours with PPL. Patrick Fuller is also a songwriter. A graduate of The O’Neal School, he is attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Baxter Clement and Members Only will be the final band of the day. Will Youngclaus will be on drums and Nick Allen on guitar. The band is well-liked for playing classic rock songs of the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s.
Clement owns the Sandhills School of Performing Arts in Southern Pines and teaches many local budding musicians. Many people will remember his performance as Buddy Holly in a recent fundraiser for Moore OnStage.
“All the bands are donating their time and talent to help the Boys and Girls Clubs,” says the spokesman.
The concert, which should conclude around 10 p.m., will be held at the corner of New York Avenue and Bennett Street.
“ Bring blankets and/or chairs,” the spokesman says.
Food, catered by CCNC, along with beer and wine, will be available for purchase.
The rain date for the concert is Sunday, June 13.
Adult tickets are a $10 donation at the gate.
The event is sponsored by BB&T Private Financial Services and BB&T Wealth.
