On June 22 and in early voting, which began June 3, Democrats and unaffiliated voters (the latter if you voted on the Democratic ticket in the May 4 primary or did not vote at all) will have the chance to cast their ballots to decide which Democratic candidate will face incumbent Sen. Richard Burr in November.
In the May 4 primary, Moore County voted resoundingly for Cal Cunningham by a margin of almost 2-1 against Elaine Marshall and four other candidates. In the runoff, only Cunningham and Marshall remain. Let’s not rest on our laurels. Go back to the polls and vote again for Cunningham.
Cunningham has focused in the campaign on the economic ills facing North Carolina. He has specific plans to address problems caused by the general economic conditions in the country and the specific ones pertinent to our state.
As a state senator he fought hard for education and teacher pay, and he will do that when in the U.S. Senate.
After 9/11, he enlisted in the Army reserves as a paratrooper and a prosecutor against contractors who were cheating the government in Iraq, where he served for a year. He won the Bronze Star for that work.
Don’t be complacent. We need a strong challenger against Burr. Vote in the runoff.
