Older “Eagles” are looking for pilots and aircraft for the June 5 Young Eagles Day in the Sandhills.
The local chapter of the Experimental Airplane Association needs both pilots and planes for the annual event held at the Moore County Airport. In 2009, the Young Eagles Day attracted more than 200 young people who were treated to flights over the county.
“Fixed wing, rotary wing, single-engine, multi-engine, light sport, experimental — if it’s got wings, we’d like to have you join us,” said Mike Jones in a message to pilots.
The day will begin at 8 a.m. with a safety briefing, and flying hours will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until about 3 p.m. Invited to take the ride are young people ages 8-17 from Moore, Lee and Hoke counties.
The Moore County Airport Authority provides fuel free of charge for these flights. The rain date is June 6.
Interested pilots are asked to call Jim Murray at (910) 638-5774 or e-mail pinehurst@live.com for further information. Participants must be EAA members, and Murray can also provide that information.
Cosponsors with the EAA chapter and the Airport Authority are the Pinecrest High School Junior Air Force ROTC and Boy Scout Troop 810.
