It's Our Own Fault

I heard the president in one of his many speeches blaming everything on the past president, again. I thought, wow, he is the one who is really running us into a ditch, along with his sidekicks. But then I thought again: It’s really our own people who are causing this downfall of our liberties and turn toward socialism.

My job takes me in and out of people’s homes, on and off, for days at a time. On occasion I run into good people who seem to really know to a tee what’s happening on TV — game shows, Oprah, etc. — but have no idea what is going on in our government.

Please wake up and learn what your government is doing. Look to places where you can get facts. Government is getting big and trying to control our lives, from things like telling us what we can eat; what companies can sell us; types of cars; making us get insurance, moving it to government control and taxing us for others’ insurance; and taxing things they deem bad for us, like tanning booths. They own banks, car manufacturers, insurance companies, etc.

What you will not hear from most of the liberal media outlets and the Democrats is that they had control of the Congress in the last two years of the Bush presidency.

The economy started going bad during this time!

do you realize that some of us middle/poor class people have been feeling this for years, we didn't have the money to get insurance but we sacraficed, some of us didn't have food and couldn't get food stamps because of the so called money we would make if we had a full time job.(It was always you make to much) us poor to middle class people know what its like to feel this tension, the rich is the one who is out of control and don't know how handle all of this taxing. You will never see a person with color at a tanning booth so that won't apply to them, (wether its good or not). you upper class people need to get use to what the President is doing cause again we poor/middle class people had to deal with President Bush tactics for 8yrs.

Hi Lloyd, I don't feel like the government is controlling my life in the ways that you mentioned. How are they telling us what to eat? if you mean we are getting more information about healthy eating and the risks of obesity, so be it. Again, I'm a little fuzzy as to what you mean about "what companies can sell us" and "what types of cars." I've pretty much bought whatever I want or need. As to health care, I truly believe the majority of people want it but either can't get it or can't afford it. Have you checked the skyrocketing costs of health care lately? I was without work about 10 years ago and tried in vain to buy my own medical insurance. No one would give it to me because of pre-existing health conditions. That, my friend, was under George W Bush. As far as the tanning booths go, I don't use them, they are a luxury in my book, so if the tax goes up, most people who use them can afford it.

Llloyd…Your spot on the mark with your comments..…Thanks for some sanity among some of the political comments that have reared up lately.

Gooch…First of all…Please scan over and become familiar with the United States tax codes. They will break down on who pays what percentage of all US taxes according to personal income. It is pretty clear that the ‘rich’ people you disdainly speak of do pay way over their share of taxes in this country. You state “, the rich is the one who is out of control and don't know how handle all of this taxing.” I disagree as they have been handling the lions share of taxes and continue to do so. And after handling all those taxes they are also the entrepreneurs who create business, hire people to work these business’s, and show great generosity in the amounts they give to charitable causes.

I would like to know specifically what tactics from President Bush are the ones that you, poor and middle class people had to deal with that your frustrated with?

Mr. Barnes, please let us know the location of the places we should go to get these "facts". I agree with GoldenDreams, nobody is telling me what to eat or what to buy. I also believe that luxury items should be taxed higher than necessities. The only people who don't think that way are the folks who think luxury items ARE necessities. Those are also the same people who think the economy started going bad when the Democrats were elected BY THE PEOPLE to be the majority in Congress.

MikeNC: "And after handling all those taxes, they are also the entrepreneurs who create business, hire people to work in these business's and show great generosity in the amounts they give to charitable causes." Let's review, the Busch tax cuts on the wealthy have not yet expired yet we are at high unemployment, new business is not being created and charitable contributions are way down. How's that whole businessey, jobby creating, money donationey thing working out for ya?

Funny JER...Yes, let's review it a bit. What you call the Bush tax cuts 'on the wealthy' were in reality tax cuts across the board for everyone that paid income tax. The added 'for the wealthy' part is the added political spin and smoke and mirror effect. It's a political ploy to take advantage of and confuse the dumbed down part of our society who fall for such rhetoric....And then vote accordingly; and that is why politicians spin such things....For the almighty vote. Did the so called rich man create more wealth than the not so rich from these cuts...of course they did. Just do the math. If someone earns 10 million dollars per year and another person is making $40,000 per year and they both get a tax cut percentage...whose percentage will be greater? Did the guy making $40,000 get a tax cut...yep and I bet he gladly spent it for the betterment of his family and our economy grew. The other guy did the same for his family acording to THEIR means or wants (It is Their money, NOT ours)

Many democrats are lobbying to keep the Bush tax cuts as they understand the further economic problems that will result in eliminating them. Our administration is considering keeping them for everbody except for the higher wage earners. Those smart democrats realize that is a foolish concept and will further disrupt any economic growth.

You say..."yet we are at high unemployment, new business is not being created and charitable contributions are way down." With the direction our administration is taking us as perfectly described by Lloyd in a nutshell...what else could you expect to happen? You will have to go ask your buddy in charge just why he does such things when the end results of such actions are obviously going to be counter productive for the vast majority of Americans.

It does not matter how much money you make or what class you are in this country. If you make money and you are a wage earner you are being taken of advantage by the tax situation caused by past and present decisions of all the levels of our government. If you are rich, poor or in between, it is a personal choice of how you choose to make your way in this life. We the people pay the money the government takes in and it needs to be a fair system for everyone that is a US citizen and pays taxes. We have to quit trying to make people ( non workers by choice/ illegal/ criminals) what they are not, and most probably will always be as long as we give them "help" to not want to make a change. There are hard working people of all classes in this country and we should be proud of them, not tax them so heavily. Thanks Lloyd for some good thoughts.

"Government is getting big and trying to control our lives, from things like telling us what we can eat; what companies can sell us;"

As soon as the government tries to tell me which companies can sell me I'll be right there with you in open revolt...

Sorry, thought that was a funny way to word it. The first time i read through the letter I thought we were being sold into slavery by our government.

In response to Gooch's posting- You may not like rich people, but if I were you, I'd be thankful to have them around. 3% of the taxpayers in this country, pay over 60% of all taxes to our government. Imagine the burden on you and all of us, if these people did not exist. Also note, that things may even get tougher for you under the new Democrat health care reform bill. 1. All medical devices you buy at the store will now have a special tax put on them, right down to a tampon. 2. If you do not have health insurance, you may be forced to pay a yearly fine. 3. Medicare and Social Security are on the chopping block, to be cut over a half billion dollars. That means cutting back big time on who can be eligable for what. 4. A doctor will now be forced to send out 1099s to every vendor he does business with over $600. That means hiring more office staff to handle the paper chase. In turn your next office visit, may very well cost more to cover Dr. expenses.

Mr. Barnes commentary is spot on regarding about the fact that more Americans are worried about how crazy Mel Gibson is, or who the new American Idol judges are going to be rather than reading and learning about what is going on in their government. Unfortunately this isn't a new problem. People didn't have the facts when Bush 43 was in office. Being informed about what is happening in your government isn't a partisan issue. Stop making it one. It always seems when one group is in office the other is shouting "wake-up" to see what is happening. It shouldn't matter. We should all be knowledgeable about what our government is doing. Regardless of who is in office we should know what is going on in our nation and in our world.

Someday, when Psychiatry actually becomes a science, the DSM should have a whole section about Liberals.

the top three percent pay most of the tax because they make most of the money duh

0

MikeNC 2 years, 9 months ago

In response to Poundman. As I mentioned to Gooch, you do NOT have to like the top 3% wealthiest people, BUT I'm thankful to have them, because my share and your share of the tax burden would be tremendous without them. If one has a Dream, Motivation, is Willing to Educate themselves for upwards to 20 years, Willing to work 12 to 14 hours a day, 7 days a week for years, and Take a Chance, they just might make it to the top. Some choose to do it, many choose not to. But in America, the opportunity is there for Everyone !
