The Moore County Chamber of Commerce will host a "lunchinar" from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, on media relations.

The speaker will be George Harrison, assistant professor in the Department of Mass Communi-cation at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Harrison will speak about media relations and how to use this resource to publicize your business.

"Understanding how to work with the media can be very difficult for small businesses," said Patrick Coughlin, president and CEO of the Chamber. "Now more than ever, it is important to use every avenue available to publicize your business, and George Harrison brings a fresh new perspective to the topic."

Harrison has more than 23 years of professional public relations and marketing experience with for-profit and nonprofit organizations in the health care and insurance industries. He earned his master's degree in business administration from Tennessee Technological University and joined the faculty of UNCP in the spring of 2003. He teaches public relations and advertising courses, as well as mass communication core courses, and advises the school's chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

Prior to joining the team at UNCP, Harrison was an adjunct instructor at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville Technical Community College and the Duke University Certificate Program in Non-Profit Management.

Harrison received awards for his works from the Mississippi Press Association, the Tennessee Society of Healthcare Public Relations and the Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter of the American Marketing Association. In addition, Harrison is APR (accredited in public relations) certified by the Public Relations Society of America.

This program is $12 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Pre-registration and payment are required.
