Sand Gnats Make All-Star Teams

The four Sand Gnat baseball teams that are members of the North Carolina Men’s Senior Baseball League are sending a total of 14 players to all-star games being held at Southern Durham High School on Saturday.

Representing the 45-year and older Gnats that are currently sitting in second place with a record of 8-4 are Wayne Garner (.400 batting average), Tim Ryan (.538), Brandon Galloway, (.385), Randy Calcutt (3-1 record, .424), Dennis Johnson (5-2, .286) and William Garner (.314). The all-star game begins at noon.

Selected to represent the first place 35 and older team (8-3-1) in the 3:30 p.m. game are John Meygas (4-1, 2.80 ERA), Tom McKay (3-1, 1.20 ERA) and Bobby Craig (.500).

Two 21 and older Sand Gnat teams are sending players to the 7 p.m. all-star game. From the fourth place National Division squad (7-3-2) are Lonnie Vause (4-0, 3.09 ERA) and Adam Friede (.516). Kevin Wallace (.500) was voted in, but can’t play in the game. He was replaced by teammate Aaron Cain (.333).

Selected from the second place 21 and older American Division Gnats (5-7) are Mitch Johnson (.314) and Jeremy Evans (3-2, 2.96 ERA).

Upcoming regular season games: July 25 - 21 Nationals at Dodgers (12:30 p.m. in Goldsboro); July 28 - 21 Americans at Bulls (7:30 p.m. in Durham); July 29 - Carolina Red Birds at 35 Gnats (7:30 p.m. Pinebluff Public Park); July 31 - Pittsboro at 45 Gnats DH (10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pinecrest).
