The Moore County Board of Education approved two amendments to Superintendent Susan Purser’s contract Monday night.
Purser requested that the board amend her contract to state that in the event local salary supplements for employees are reduced in the future as a result of budgetary concerns, she would also be included in those reductions.
Purser also requested that she receive an allowance for her cell phone and Internet expenses rather than have the school system provide the cell phone for her. The board voted to give her an allotment of $200 a month.
Following her annual evaluation last month, the board voted to extend Purser’s contract one year through the 2013-2014 school year. Purser elected to forgo an automatic $2,500 pay increase.
“I’d just like to state thank you, Dr. Purser, that was nice of you to add those extra things and that if our teachers are impacted, that you agree to want to be impacted as well,” board member Laura Lang said. “That says a lot about your leadership to our teachers and the county.”
She will make $152,000 next year, according to her contract.
