The Monday night meeting of the Moore County Board of Commissioners will be tax settlement time.

Tax Administrator Wayne Vest will report collections of all taxes for the 2009-2010 fiscal year and will officially seek authority to continue carrying out this task in the new fiscal year. These are routine procedures required by law.

Judging from a recognition item on the Monday agenda, the report is expected to be a good one. For more than 10 years, the department has collected more than 99 percent of the levy, one of the highest rates in North Carolina.

The commissioners will convene their public meeting at 6 p.m. in the historic courthouse in Carthage. They will meet an hour earlier for a closed session.

SEVEN LAKES - The old business portion of the Monday agenda includes a request by the Greater Seven Lakes Community Council for inclusion in the periodic gatherings hosted by the commissioners for municipal and school elected officials.

The board will be asked to approve a contract with the new Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue Department and will also consider a resolution for financing a new truck for the department. Cypress Pointe is the department formed by the merger of the Circle V, Cameron and Vass Fire Departments and the Vass Rescue Squad.

Soroptimist International, of Raleigh, will make a presentation on human trafficking.

COBLE - Lindsay Mor-ris, a member of Congress-man Howard Coble's Greensboro staff, will be in Southern Pines Wednesday to handle constituent inquiries and provide other services to Moore County residents.

Coble announced the Southern Pines office hours earlier this month. The schedule calls for Morris to staff the local office on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the new Southern Pines Police Station at 450 W. Pennsyl-`vania Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. until 12 noon and 1 until 3 p.m.

SOCIAL SERVICES - The Moore County Board of Social Services will elect new officers as the first order of business during its Wednesday meeting.

County Commissioner Cindy Morgan, whose term expires this year, is the current chairwoman.

The board will meet at 3 p.m. in the Carriage Oaks Facility Board Room in Carthage.
