Recent Pinecrest graduate James Baldwin III went 2-for-3 for the Arizona Rookie League Dodgers on Monday, extending his hitting streak to five games.
The fourth-round pick of Los Angeles in June’s amateur draft is 9-for-20 at the plate during the streak after making only one hit in his first 20 at-bats as a pro. He has raised his batting average to .244.
Playing in center field, as he did while earning co-conference player of the year and all-state honors for the Patriots in the spring, Baldwin knocked out five hits in a two-game stretch beginning July 5 to get things going with the bat.
On July 11, his two-run triple sparked a three-run sixth-inning rally in a 9-5 loss to the Angels. The Dodgers are 9-9 and in second place in the Central Division after Monday’s 11-5 loss to the Cubs.
