A bill giving Moore County Schools police department greater authority passed the General Assembly Thursday.

The bill changes the police department from special police category to campus police category. One of the main differences is that it gives school resource officers authority over public roads or highways passing through or immediately adjoining a school’s property.

Moore County is the second school district to receive this designation. Charlotte-Mecklenburg was the first to achieve the designation.
