Magnificent horses put to exquisite, vintage carriages participated in the 17th annual Carriage Classic in the Pines held at the Pinehurst Harness Track on May 22-23.

The event, sponsored by the Moore County Driving Club, attracted 41 entries.

Participants included two junior competitors driving four-in-hands of ponies, Brianna Ek, of Southern Pines, and Jacob Arnold, of Snow Camp, both of whom were presented the Sportsmanship Award by Linda Long, organizer of the show.

In addition, Ek was Open Multiple Horse/Pony Reserve Champion, as well as Junior Division Reserve Champion.

The Open Pair Horse Championship was awarded to Jen Ozley, of Southern Pines, driving Willard Rhodes’ fine pair of Dutch Warmbloods imported from the Netherlands.

Local driver Deborah Branson walked away with Open Pair Pony Reserve Champion.
