Moore County got a mix of snow and sleet overnight, making travel throughout the county treacherous.

Precipitation is expected to end by Saturday night. The northern part of the county reportedly received 2 to 3 inches of snow. In Southern Pines and Pinehurst, the precipitation fell in the form of sleet mixed with snow. The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement, indicating that freezing rain will fall over the Sandhills region today through mid-afternoon.

Scot Brooks, Moore County’s emergency manager said things had been relatively quite throughout the county.

“There were a report of a few minors wrecks, nothing terrible” he said, “but no downed trees or power outages to this point.”

Brooks also urged residents to stay off the roads as much as possible throughout the weekend.

“People should stay off the roadways unless they absolutely have to be out in it,” Brooks said. “Stay home and enjoy some family time.”

Temperatures are expected to remain at of below freezing throughout the rest of the weekend. High temperatures are expected to reach the low-40s by Monday.
