Fay Honeycutt, president of the Friends of the Postmaster's House, Inc., presented the award for Friend of the Year to Cy Israel, of Aberdeen, to recognize his many contributions to the restoration and maintenance of the Postmaster's House during the past year.
She also commented on the many years Israel has contributed his time and expertise. Honeycutt reminded members that in addition to Israel's contribution in restoration and maintenance, he also is an excellent chef, who provides the main course for many fundraisers. Cy Israel has been an active member since the inception of the organization 10 years ago.
The Postmaster's House, located on South Street in the Aberdeen Historic District, was originally built in 1880 for Malcolm James Blue, Aberdeen's first postmaster, and is the oldest structure in Aberdeen.
The Friends of the Postmaster's House, Inc. is a nonprofit organization and was formed to restore, maintain and promote the Postmaster's House and its contribution to the history of Aberdeen and Moore County.
The support is provided by members of the organization, through fundraising activities and ever important donations.
