Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department is offering several camps and "fun days" for children in the coming months.
"Hugs and Kiss Mini-Camp" is for youth ages 5-10. The event is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 13.
Children will make Valentine hearts, hats and gifts to share.
"We will also enjoy a scavenger hunt before the party is over," says Sue Gillis, program coordinator.
Spring Break Day Camp is designed for children ages 6-13.
"The camp offers great hours and convenient schedules as well as innovative, creative and fun activities," says Gillis. "It's a great value and a great price, and we provide a safe and well-supervised environment."
The camp experience offers games, crafts, sports and day trips. Space is limited, so early registration is suggested. The week-long camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 5 through 9 at the Train House. The fee is $80 for Southern Pines residents and $160 for nonresidents.
The department also offers "full day outings." A group will travel to Raleigh to the Museum of Natural Sciences and Pullen Aquatic Center Monday, Feb. 15. The trip is open to youngsters ages 6-13. The cost is $27 for residents and $54 for nonresidents. Participants should bring a lunch, drink and snacks because the kids are kept busy from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Drop-off and pickup is at the Train House.
Wednesday, March 3, is an early release day for schools.
"We will race to fit as many fun things in the afternoon as we can manage, including bowling trip, science experiments, edible crafts and outdoor games," says Gillis. "Drop-off and pickup is at the Train House from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m."
Preregistration is required for the activities.
