In Favor of Going Private With ABCs

I read with enthusiastic support your editorial comments in the Jan. 15 and 17 editions of The Pilot concerning the elimination of state-owned (ABC) liquor stores.

There are only four counties out of the 100 counties in our state with no ABC stores. This suggests that these fiefdoms of local boards, ABC police officers and retirement plans for all are costing taxpayers and consumers an unjustifiable fortune.

Our state can benefit significantly from privately owned stores that provide reasonable prices to consumers as they increase revenues to the state's general fund by elimination of local fiefdoms, special police and tax-supported pensions.

The Gov. should be in no buisness that could be private.

I'd be interested in knowing, to what retirement plans do you refer ?

They are talking about the ABC's quasi police force - ABC Enforcement Officers. They are state employees and therefore eligible for state retirement plan.

I was in Florida over the holidays and they have private stores and their prices were considerably higher than the state run stores of North Carolina.
