Students enrolled in the first through eighth grades are invited to attend the Little Patriots 2010 Speed and Agility Clinics sponsored by Sandhills Optimist Club.
All athletes are welcome, as this is not a football only clinic. It will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Feb. 1 through March 3 at Pinecrest High School. The cost is $100 for the entire clinic or $10 per session.
The mission is to provide each athlete with positive instruction in several areas of athletic improvement. The staff will be led by Chris Metzger, head football coach at Pinecrest High School, his staff and area guest coaches.
Each athlete will receive instruction in different phases of athletics, including eating habits, form running, stretching and overall fitness for life. The clinics are a combination of speed, agility and plyometric training. All drills and sessions will be conducted in groups based on age.
Camp attire is shorts, T-shirts, socks and running shoes. Campers should bring plenty of water. For more information call Coach Metzger at (239) 248-0808.
Middle School Workouts
Monday and Wednesday morning workouts for middle school athletes will be held at the fieldhouse at Pinecrest High school beginning Monday, Jan. 25.
The program will include a warm-up and provides an introduction to strength and conditioning. It is available for all interested sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls and will run through Wednesday, May 19. The sessions will begin at 6 a.m. and end at 7:15. The student-athletes will then be bussed to their respective schools.
Any questions about the program should be referred to Chris Metzger at (239) 248-0808.
Weights Needed
Pinecrest has a need for used dumbells, weights and plate holders for use by student-athletes in physical education classes and offseason workouts.
Anyone willing to make such a donation should contact Chris Metzger at (239) 248-0808.
