Lewin Blue, of Vass, will fill a vacant seat on the Moore-Montgomery Farm Service Agency (FSA) Committee.
His three-year term began Jan. 1.
Blue was elected in late fall to represent local administrative area 3, according to Amber Waller, executive director of the Moore-Montgomery FSA office. Election results were tabulated by FSA county office employees in December.
Waller said FSA committee elections are held annually. Candidates are nominated by local farmers and ranchers and must live in the county or local administrative area they will represent. They must also be eligible to vote in the county election.
Duties of committee members include informing farmers of the purpose and provisions of FSA programs, keeping the state FSA committee informed of local administrative area conditions, recommending needed changes in farm programs, participating in county meetings as necessary and performing other duties assigned by the state FSA committee.
Blue joined Thurman Chriscoe, Don Thompson, Tim Priest and Art Williams on the committee, which will held its organizational meeting Jan. 14 at the local FSA office in the Moore County Agriculture Center on Pinehurst Avenue in Carthage.
