Pinecrest's wrestling team defeated Scotland 36-32 Wednesday to improve to 3-0 in Southeastern 4A Conference duals.

The first match was at 215 pounds, with Patriot junior Gabe Hackney losing a 2-0 decision to Davis Jones. Senior Pinecrest captain Daniel Keith, who bumped up to heavyweight for the night, then beat Darryl McDougal with a 30-second pin.

At 103 pounds, Zac Lupien pinned DeShawn Williams in 1:29 to put the Patriots up 12-3. Scotland was able to edge closer with a pin against 112-pound freshman Sawyer Bateman, but Pinecrest's third pin of the night came at 119 pounds, with junior Michael Lippincott beating Kenneth McCoy with 1:43 remaining in the second period to bring the team score to 18-9.

Scotland won the next four matches by decisions against Patriot 125-pounder Clem McKenzie, 130-pounder Garrett Bateman, 135-pounder Grey Tampa and 140-pounder Dustin Roemer, but the Scots were only able to gain 13 points for a four-point lead.

Pinecrest regained a two-point lead when 145-pound senior captain Zane Excell pinned Shaquille Carbon in 1:43. But then Pinecrest 152-pounder Jonathan Thornton was pinned, and the Scots retook the lead.

The Patriots finally gained some breathing room when 160-pound junior Nathan Frederique pinned Deon Johnson in 3:48 and freshman Hawk George recieved a forfeit at 171.

Scotland won one more match by decision, but it was not enough to make up the deficit.
