Sandhills Community College will celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with a motivational performance by Mitch Capel, otherwise known as "Gran'daddy Junebug," Friday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. in Owens Auditorium.
The event is free and open to the public.
Capel, a master storyteller and recording artist, has delighted audiences throughout the U.S. with his warmth, wit and compelling storytelling style since 1984.
He has an uncanny ability to enthrall audiences regardless of age, with humor, drama and charm. He has been described as a "word magician" and a "national treasure."
Continuing his family tradition of preserving culture and teaching through stories passed down to him from his parents and grandparents, Gran'daddy Junebug teaches personal responsibility and respect for self and others through the African oral tradition of "call and response."
