It's Not 'Frivolous'

The Pilot's editorial on Jan. 1 states that Pinewild is engaged in a "frivolous" lawsuit with Pinehurst. You may not agree with Pinewild's actions, but please remember: This is really the only course available to us under current annexation law.

What makes it frivolous? Reminder: Prior to any homes being built in Pinewild, the developers of Pinewild asked to be annexed by Pinehurst. Pinehurst declined. Why? Because had it done so, Pinehurst would have been financially responsible for the infrastructure of Pinewild.

So we, the property owners, paid for the infrastructure, and now Pinehurst wants to forcibly annex Pinewild without any reimbursement to the property owners for our investment in the community like roads, utilities, etc. We are fighting to preserve whatever rights we as citizens still have in this country. What Pinehurst is attempting is nothing but a "money grab."

Remember, Pinehurst has invested not one dime in our community. Pinehurst, if it is successful in annexing Pinewild, will not provide one service we currently don't receive from the county or provide ourselves.

Why should the residents of Pinewild pony up an average of $1,500 in additional taxes every single year to Pinehurst, for what? Nothing! Should you or anyone else? I don't think so.

The law is flawed, and we as good citizens are doing our best to revise and clarify the law so cities cannot exercise such dictatorial powers. Why wouldn't you support this? Democracy in action! Changing the annexation law will benefit everyone.

The Pilot should report the facts and let the process play out. Could it be The Pilot is attempting to influence the process? If not, print only the facts.
