In the Baptist backwoods of the Bible belt, the beleaguered Turpin family proves that living and dying in the South are seldom tidy and always hilarious. Despite their earnest efforts to pull themselves together for their father's funeral, the Turpins' other problems keep overshadowing the solemn occasion.
Moore OnStage is presenting its fourth show of this season, "Dearly Departed," "a drop-dead funny play" at the Sunrise Theater for five performances only, Wednesday, March 17, through Saturday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m.
"On Wednesday, March 17, we are offering a buy one, get one free night," says Cinny Beggs, executive director of Moore OnStage."
Don Bridge, the director of "Greater Tuna," has assembled a cast that plays their characters with conviction and a lot of humor. Tom Dalton ("Greater Tuna"), Shannon Dalton ("Sisters of Swing") and Kimberly Corrigan ("Sylvia") have all performed for Moore OnStage, as have Loretta Aldridge ("Jake's Women"), who has been absent from the stage for almost five years and just had to play the part of Raynelle, and Randy Rime, who actually played Jake in "Jake's Women" and Ginny Buckner ("Masterclass"). Some newcomers to Moore OnStage are Sean Smith (SLT's "Streetcar Named Desire)"; Ova Jean Siemens, who was a chorus member in "Oklahoma" and has appeared in numerous community theater productions; Steve Moore, who has been seen in numerous Temple Theatre productions, most recently "A Christmas Carol"; and Karen Steelman, who played Patsy Cline at the Barn Dinner Theatre in Greensboro in "A Walk With Patsy Cline."
Tickets are $20 and may be reserved by calling Moore OnStage at (910) 692-7118 with a Mastercard or a Visa.
