An Aberdeen man was taken to the FirstHealth Moore Regional hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after he drove his mo-ped into the back of another vehicle Monday afternoon.
Curtis McGoogan, 45, was cited by Aberdeen Police for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision after he hit the back of a 1999 Mercury Sable that had stopped for a Moore County school bus on North Poplar Street near Peach Street in Aberdeen, according to police.
It happened at 4:05 p.m.
All three vehicles were travelling south on North Poplar Street. The speed limit on the street is 35 mph.
According to police reports, the mo-ped was a total loss, and the car sustained $2,000 in damages.
Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. No one in the car was hurt, Aberdeen Police Chief Mike Conner said.

As someone who drives a moped they are great ways to get around a small town such as S.P. The only requirement is a motorcycle safety helmet is required by law when operating a moped on North Carolina highways. If the moped does not exceed more than 35 miles per hour, a driver license is not required, and the moped does not have to be registered, inspected or covered by liability insurance.
