An Aberdeen man was taken to the FirstHealth Moore Regional hospital with non-life threatening injuries after he drove his mo-ped into the back of another vehicle Monday afternoon.

Curtis McGoogan, 45, of Aberdeen, was cited by Aberdeen Police for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision after he hit the back of a 1999 Mercury Sable that had stopped for a Moore County School bus on North Poplar Street near Peach Street in Aberdeen.

The incident occurred at 4:05 p.m.

All three vehicles were travelling south on North Poplar Street. The speed limit on the street is 35 mph.

“The mo-ped was pretty tore up, and the car had some damage,” said Mike Conner, Aberdeen police chief.

According to police reports the mo-ped was “totaled” and the car sustained $2,000 in damage.

Three people were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. No one in the car was hurt, Conner said.

hi, myrt46, as the owner of that car, i can say that the driver of that pocket rocket motor bike (not moped as has been reported) does NOT in fact have insurance. uggghhh!! also, my seven year old was in her booster seat in the back of the car and was terrified!!! those things should be outlawed!! grrrr thanks for your comment!! : )

misslissa, glad you guys are ok and looking at the picture it appears that it is a moped not a pocket rocket as you stated. I do feel sorry for you because they dont have insurance and are allowed to be on the highways, I too wish they were outlawed they are a problem.
