Correction: Ruth Pauley Lecture Is Tuesday

A story in Sunday's edition of The Pilot had the wrong date for the lecture. The correct date is Tuesday, Feb. 23.

Re-enactor Jim Getty will present "An Evening with Abraham Lincoln" Tuesday as part of the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series.

The first-person presentation will be at 7:30 p.m. in Owens Auditorium on the Sandhills Community College campus in Pinehurst. Admission is free to the public, with no tickets required.

A native of central Illinois, Getty now resides in historic Gettysburg, Pa., where he portrays the 16th president in a one-man show during the tourist -season. The program has received the Pennsylvania Travel Excellence Award.

Getty holds a master's degree in music from Illinois Wesleyan University. He taught high school choral music in St. Charles and Naperville, Ill., and Sandusky, Ohio. He was director of choral activities at the University of Maine.

A member of the National Speakers Association, Getty speaks in many high schools and colleges as well as at conventions and business meetings. Having spent years in research on Lincoln and his contemporaries, Getty has developed several first-person presentations as the president.

Participation in national and state government festivities are a part of his schedule each year.

Getty has worked with The Close-Up Foundation, the Library of Congress, the Smith-sonian Institution Seminars, the Corcoran Gallery and National Geographic Tours. Tigrett Corp., the Loyola College Executive MBA Program, the Federal Executive Institute and Johns Hopkins University utilize his talents in their leadership seminars.

Getty's voice is that of the president in two A&E programs: "Abraham Lincoln: A Biogra-phy" and "The Assassination of President Lincoln." He portrayed Lincoln in the TBS film "The Ironclads."

The Ruth Pauley Lecture Series is sponsored by Sandhills Community College, the Moore County school system, the Moore County League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women.

The series' objective is to bring speakers to the Sandhills to give insights on important issues to our community.

Previous speakers have included Frank Deford, Sandra Day O'Connor, Stephen Ambrose, George McGovern, Osssie Davis and Newt Gingrich.
