Pilot Set Bad Example

I cannot believe The Pilot would print such a picture on the front page on Feb. 12, “SI Swimsuit Issue Features Local Girl.” The writer states, “She’s not wearing a bathing suit or much else — just a little paint.”
Why would you print the picture of her on the front page for all to see? As soon as I picked up The Pilot from my front yard, I knew I would be canceling my subscription.
I will not support my local paper as long as it stoops so low as to publish such trash. I hope the rest of the readers will follow suit and make complaints.
What are we teaching our youth? Do we really want newspapers in education?

im sorry but i dont see how putting the picture on the front page was so terrible. To say the paper publishes trash is funny....it leaves me wondering if you own a TV or go out in public any...because there are a lot worse things to be seen.... i like how poncho says " i give it up, the pic was disgusting" well the pic was in the Feb 12th paper...its the 19th....and your still looking at the pilot...so was it really that disgusting...thanks for the little laugh today.

Just because you appreciate the beauty of the naked form doesn't mean you have to defend its presentation on the front page of a local "previously family friendly" newspaper. This isn't a freedom of expression or speech situation any more than a drive-in movie whose screen is visible from dozens of houses along their fence line has the right to screen XXX Movies that are visible to the homeowners. Come on folks, if you've ever been to Times Square in the old days you'll remember all the old strip joints. They'd probably still be there if they hadn't started displaying x-rated photos of what was going on inside on posters outside. I believe everyone has the right to do what they want to legally as long as they don't infringe on other people's rights. Usually that means in the privacy of your own home or business. The Times Square strip joints forced everyday folks to confront their x-rated photos and they paid the price. Some Frat boys at The Pilot (and I'd be very surprised if any women were in on the decision to publish this photo) decided for all of us in the area that a nude photo of a local girl's breasts with some poster paint dabbed on them was suitable for everybody to look at. Wrong!!!!

I have no problem with the picture on the front page. However, I knew when I saw it that it would create a firestorm and it has. I do wonder how many of you would have even known that it was paint if you had not been told? If she had been in an actual bikini, would the outrage still exist? I also know that by everyone ranting the way that they are, it is only drawing more attention to the picture.
One more thing......the personal attacks on this young lady are COMPLETELY uncalled for. Some of the comments that I have seen since this picture was published are nasty and vicious. How dare any of you make comments on this young lady's intelligence, her child, or her ability to teach and raise said child. Most of you call yourself "Christians", yet you spew venom at this young lady like she is somehow unclean. Shame on you! It reminds me of the nasty things people said about the little girl that went deer hunting with her family. I am reminded now why I am not Christian.

I agree mostly with 'witchywoman'.
Most of you wouldn't even have realized that it was just paint, if the article hadn't stated that fact.
It is a photo made 'in good taste'....in my opinion.
Seriously though, what is the big deal!?!? We all see our own naked body every single day. We know what it looks like. It is nothing that we haven't seen already. Granted....'her body' probably looks a heck of a lot better than most of the people posting these comments....I know she looks better than I would with a painted on bikini ;-)
I say to those who are offended - Yes, you have every right to voice your opinion, but is it really that bad??? And, as far as, canceling your subscription to The Pilot....it's obvious that you can read most everything 'for free' online! So are you really going to ditch The Pilot and ThePilot.com?
To end my rant...as my granny used to say: "You can’t tell nobody nothing that aint ever been nowhere!"

NCgirl, I like your granny's quote. =) Two thumb's up.
I also think it was blown way out of proportion.

Im gonna take the 37.50 i would have spent on the pilot and get a subscription to sports illustrated as the photo quality was much better lol Come on people get a freakin grip we have much bigger problems to worry about in moore county then if the pilot is printing g rated pictures painted on suit or other wise. if your that uptight or worried about moral decay then go work at a homeless shelter or spend that energy and christian good will doing something positive for the community rather than complaining about stupid stuff
runorbike 3 years, 3 months ago
It really is time to let this go or else the county is going to have to open a disaster shelter and bring in counselors and therapists to assist those who are traumatized by that "horrific "photo. Let go, just clear your mind of that ink stained, pornographic image, and let it go.

I suppose we should burn down the Louvre and the Accademia Gallery in Florence while we are at it. You close-minded, repressed people who are so outraged and ashamed of the human body are a much larger problem than a picture featuring a beautiful human body. Arguably God's greatest creation. Look at the culture that grew like bacteria in a petri dish with priests in the Catholic church. Look at the hypocrisy of Ted Haggard and others preaching morals and admonishments from on high. Shame and repression of normal human sexuality and expression is more a danger to society than tasteful displays of the human form and a healthy understanding of acceptable sexual behavior where no one is subjugated or hurt. Is this America or Afghanistan? Sounds like some of you would fit in more with Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban than a true Christian society. I suppose we should turn off the Olympics or force all the gymnasts, swimmers and other athletes to wear burkas. Our time and energy is better focused towards bettering mankind with love, acceptance, education, and understanding instead of wallowing in anger over something so innocent. All that said, knowing how rabid the conservative crazies can get around here, I am surprised the Pilot decided to publish the image on the front page!

O.K. this is my last response to this issue. I'm only adding this comment because all week I've had to watch all those Christian Conservatives at the CPAC conference in Washington, DC bludgeon Gays and all the opponets of Don't Ask Don't Tell and those folks who don't want an Amendment to the Constitution that only allows men to marry women, etc. I am tired of these supposedly God-fearing Christian people explaining away every sexual failure on the part of their supporters. So here goes...Don't tell me what a wonderful woman and mother and Christian this pseudo Sports Illustrated model whatever her name is from Union Pines H.S. who stood naked in front of an "artist" so he could dab paint on her Tah Tahs with a bunch of photographers, PR people and "who the hell else" was in the room. Most of the people supporting this woman would be meeting with their lawyers if their own wives or husbands appeared in Pine Straw with paint on their whatsis. Good people do stupid things and good newspapers to stupid things...lets chalk the whole thing up to that and start over. Hopefully none of the people on either side who thought this was a good idea have a say on the next "artistic booby shot".

Let's be honest here. Who all registered just to post on this topic? I know I did.
By the way, being from Highfalls myself, I enjoyed the picture and article. Times have changed, it's a new generation. Get used to it.

Well....To all of you who are cancelling your newspaper subscription because of Beth's photo...Adios since we will not be seeing ya'll on here voicing your rant in the future. Surely you wouldn't support the "Pilot' on line either, would you? All the nice things said about Beth in the article from folks who know her and all the rotten things said about her in the aftermath from folks who do not know her, but only mindlessly judging her. Reckon I'll believe the folks who know her.

Just so you know Sports Illustrated has a swim suit issue as well. Could it be jealousy because the body has dropped a bit for those that is so up set. Get over it, it's a new day as I said before live and let live.
runorbike 3 years, 3 months ago
Ladylane, gotta love you! You are so right!

wowww. these women are obviously jealous they dont look like her so they rant about how shes setting a bad example. im sure if your body were as amazing as hers youd be flaunting it where you could && youd be happy it was on the front page but no;; your jealous mean women who hide behind your computer screens all day && night with no life making articles about a very educated loving mother whos actually doing something with her life obviosuly. shame on you. idiots.
