Fourth-seed Douglas Byrd upset top-seed and three-time defending champion Southern Lee 57-55 in the semifinals of the Cape Fear Valley 3A Conference boys’ basketball tournament Thursday night.

The Eagles will travel to second-seeded Westover tonight for the 7:30 p.m. championship game. The Wolverines knocked off third-seeded Union Pines 65-56 in the semifinals on Thursday.

As the top remaining boys’ seed, the Wolverines will also host the finals of the girls’ tournament, which pits co-regular season champions Union Pines and Westover against each other with the No. 1 seed from the conference for the state playoffs on the line. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Top-seeded Pinecrest will host second-seeded Scotland at 7 p.m. tonight in the finals of the Southeastern 4A Conference boys’ tournament.

Top-seed Lumberton will meet third-seed Scotland in the SEC girls’ final, after Lumberton dropped No. 5 Hoke 48-43 and Scotland blew out second-seeded Richmond 56-38 in the semifinals on Thursday.

North Moore’s second-seeded Lady Mustangs will travel to top-seed Chatham Central for the finals of the Yadkin Valley 1A Conference girls’ tournament, after knocking off third-seeded Albemarle 48-34 in the semifinals Thursday night.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Albemarle defeated East Montgomery 58-38 in the boys' semifinals Thursday night. The second-seeded Bulldogs will face top-seeded North Rowan in the final at Chatham Central tonight at 7:30 p.m.
