Pinehurst Mayor George Lane has been hospitalized after a fall at his home Monday, according to a village news release.

Lane underwent surgery at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital and remains sedated, it said.

Mayor Pro Tem Ginsey Fallon has assumed the responsibilities of mayor while Lane is incapacitated. It is unknown when Lane could return to work.

“Until the council determines that there’s a need to do otherwise, we’ll just go forward and operate with four members and Ginsey will fulfill the mayor’s duties,” Village Manager Andy Wilkison said by phone Wednesday.

Wilkison said he didn’t know the nature of Lane’s condition or his surgery, but said it appeared to be “serious.”

Lane’s family has requested that friends and well wishers not attempt to visit him at this time.

The news release said that additional information would be made available as it becomes known.

Wilkison said he would be the best contact for any inquiries about the mayor or village business.

He added: “I know the family would appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers.”
