Moore County voter registration books gained nine new names in the first three days of the month.
The total was 59,841 when the names were tallied by the Board of Elections on Jan. 29. By the next update on Feb. 3, the total had climbed to 59,850.
Republicans had gained five registrants, the unaffiliated had gained five, and Democrats had lost one. Libertarians remained unchanged at 81.
At the time of the 2008 general election, the registration total had climbed above 60,000 for the first time in history.
KRUEGER - District Attorney Maureen Krueger will be guest speaker for the Saturday, Feb. 13, meeting of the Democratic Women of Moore County.
She will talk about gangs in Moore County.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at party headquarters, 104-A North McNeill St. in Carthage. The meeting is open to the public and all interested persons are welcome to attend, according to DWMC spokeswoman Mindy Fineman.
DEMOCRATS - The regular executive committee meeting of the Moore County Democratic Party will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at party headquarters in Carthage.
Party Chairman Jim Heim said this meeting will provide an opportunity to schedule the annual precinct meetings and to hear from regional director Jeff Mallare, who will introduce new strategies for the 2010 mid-term elections.
"All Democrats are invited to attend as we kick off the election year," Heim said.
GOP PRECINCTS - The Moore County Republican Party has announced the following precinct meetings:
n East Knollwood, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Fordham Room at Belle Meade Country Club on Camp Easter Road. For more information, interested East Knollwood Republicans can call Malcolm Owings at (910) 246-1712.
n Eureka, 2 p.m. Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at the home of Neil Godfrey 25 Golden Rod Drive in Whispering Pines.
n Pinehurst B1, at 7 p.m. Feb. 22, at the home of Bill Parke, chairman, 240 Fairway Drive, Pinehurst.
n Carthage, 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the McDonald Building, 203 McReynolds St. Patricia Chappell is the contact person. More information is available by calling (910) 783-5842.
n East Aberdeen, 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the home of Ellene Busby, chairwoman, 400 Saunders Blvd.
n Little River, 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Carolina Room at Woodlake. David Lain is the contact person.
n Pinehurst C, 4 p.m. Feb. 28 at the home of Bob Tweed, chairman, 790 Lake Forest Drive SE.
These are the annual precinct meetings, and the main business will be election of delegates to the county convention.
