The O'Neal School's girls' basketball team picked up its first league win of the season while the Falcon boys got a blowout win as the Falcon teams earned a sweep Monday over conference rival Harrells Christian Academy.

The O’Neal girls got 11 points from senior Ellen Cowherd and Katie Jenkins scored seven second-half points as the Falcons defeated the visiting Lady Crusaders 25-21.

In the nightcap, O’Neal’s boys came out on fire from behind the arc, as the Falcons made four first-quarter three-pointers to shoot Harrells Christian out of its 2-3 zone defense.

Spurred on by a nine-point second period from freshman Jacob Talbert, the Falcons took a 31-14 lead at intermission and then extended the margin to 39-18 when Talbert grabbed a defensive board and seconds later scored in the post with 3:17 remaining in the third frame. O’Neal carried a 45-25 lead into the fourth quarter and went on to win by a score of 63-40.

Talbert had 17 points to lead the Falcons in scoring, while tallying eight boards and four assists.
