Random thoughts from the chair as I sit around waiting on race cars. Race cars, people!
Danica Patrick will guest star on "CSI: NY" next week. I'm still not watching.
Schools in Indianapolis are on a one-hour delay Monday after the Super Bowl. Way to have your priorities in order.
NASCAR announced it will lower sanctioning fees for tracks to host its events, with the result being smaller purses for drivers and teams. Am I the only one who finds this to be a bit disingenuous on NASCAR's part, since 14 of the 22 race tracks that host NASCAR Sprint Cup races are owned by International Speedway Corporation - a company owned by NASCAR's ruling family, the Frances? So basically, NASCAR is saying we are going to charge ourselves less to host our races, then pay the drivers less.
The story about the trouble a-brewing with the English soccer team almost makes me want to watch the World Cup. Almost.
I wish I owned a NASCAR number with some points attached to it. Those things are pretty damn valuable. Roush-Fenway sold the No. 26 to Latitude 43 Racing. Doug Yates sold points from his team to Front Row Motorsports for a share in the team. All those teams finished in the top-35 last year, which gives the new teams guaranteed starting spots in the first five races. Seriously, this rule sucks.
I am now only getting my sports news from the Ocho Cinco News Network?
The Bud Shootout is this weekend. With the new rules, I'm pulling for David Pearson. And Ken Schrader. Only one of those is a joke.
Stephon Marbury has taken his special brand of crazy to China. I think Gilbert Arenas should join him.
If you read my columns, you know I am pretty cynical regarding NASCAR. But hope springs eternal as the boys head to Daytona to kick off the 2010 season. It has been a long winter without NASCAR racing.
Fire 'em up boys, and let's go racing.
