The University of North Carolina at Greensboro offers its third annual Access and Equity Conference Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Cone Ballroom, Elliott University Center.

This year's conference, "Access, Equity and Inclusion: Removing Barriers in Education for Individuals with Disabilities," is free and open to the public. Organizers expect some 300 educators and community members from across North Carolina to attend.

Keynote speakers are Michael Murray, director of Disability Action Network, a Raleigh-based organization that provides legal advocacy for people with disabilities, and Dr. Festus E. Obiakor of the Department of Exceptional Education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Murray was diagnosed with ADHD and a learning disability as a child. He has worked with the Youth Advisory Committee for the National Council on Disability, the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, D.C., and UNCG's Beyond Academics program. Murray speaks at 9:30 a.m. on "Disability: Natural, Beautiful and Welcomed."

Obiakor specializes in multicultural psychology, special education and educational reform. He has written more than 150 publications in the field, and serves as associate editor of "Teacher Education and Special Education" and co-editor of "Multicultural Learning." Obiakor speaks at 10:45 a.m. on "Using the Comprehensive Support Model to Maximize Access, Equity and Inclusion in General and Special Education."

Interactive sessions cover autism spectrum disorders, special education and the law, and assistive technology.
