A Robbins man died in a one-vehicle wreck near his home Thursday when he lost control of his SUV and ran off the road.
James Melvin Oxendine, 63, was driving west on George P. Road at 5:20 p.m. when he entered a curve in the road and overcorrected his vehicle, according to information from the Moore County office of the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The vehicle ran off the road and struck a fence and at least two trees before stopping on the side of the road, according to the Highway Patrol.
The investigating trooper's reports estimated Oxendine's speed at the time of the wreck at 55 mph.
It was unclear from preliminary reports whether or not Oxendine was wearing his seat belt.
Oxendine, who lived on George P. Road, was the only person in the vehicle.
High Falls fire and rescue and Moore County EMS also responded to the scene.
