Carolina Friends Sweeps O'Neal

The O’Neal School girls’ basketball team hosted Carolina Friends Tuesday, dropping the non-conference game 58-9.

The Quakers got out to a 26-2 first quarter lead and never looked back, according to coach Don Woodfield. They led the Lady Falcons by the score of 40-3 at half time.

Leading Carolina Friends was Janilah Watson with 22 followed by Zoe Vernon 15, Jolene Wells and Anna McClain six each, Ella Ferguson five and Allegra Berry and Lydia Ward with two each.

Maggie Jackson had four for the home team followed by two each for Mary Dixon and Maura Thornton, and one for Claire Russell.

O’Neal dropped to 1-8 and Carolina Friends improved to 5-3.

On the boys’ side, the visitors built an early 10-point lead and held on to post a 66-57 win. Jacob Talbert had 19 points for the Falcons. Charlie Johnson scored 18, and Stephen Chamberlain added 10 points.

O’Neal plays at Kerr-Vance Academy on tonight.
