A Siler City man was arrested Friday in connection with the theft of two semi-truck trailers from the West End area of the county.

Andy Brian Moody, 32, of 200 Moody Loop Road, Siler City, faces numerous charges, including two counts of felony larceny, according to a press release.

The investigation that led to the arrest of Moody started when the Sheriff’s office received a report on Aug. 6 from a West End man that his semi-truck trailer had been removed from a tobacco field near his residence, according to the release. Another report was made Thursday that a semi-truck trailer had been stolen from C&M Carriers Inc. located on Doubs Chapel Road. It was also reported that during the larceny a fuel tank was struck, spilling approximately 550 gallons of diesel fuel.

Moody was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies after the two missing trailers were located at D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company in Biscoe. While arresting Moody, deputies discovered three grams of methamphetamine, 48 grams of marijuana, items of drug paraphernalia and $4,000.

Investigators learned of 12 semi-truck trailers taken to D.H. Griffin by Moody since July 19, including the two trailers which were reported stolen from Moore County, all having the vehicle identification number (VIN) removed from them. The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is assisting the Moore County Sheriff’s Office with determining the origin of the remaining trailers.

Moody was charged with two counts of felony larceny, two counts of felony possession of stolen property, one count of misdemeanor injury to property, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed, with his bail set at $125,000.

Deputies also arrested Tara Michelle Barth, 27, of Dorsett Road, Siler City. She was with Moody when he was arrested. She has been charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was jailed, with her bail set at $31,000.

Maybe the keys were left in those and the guy knew when no one was around.

Sounds like he just stole the trailers. So he must have his own truck.

The real problem here is that the current law in N.C. allows people to sell motor vehicles and trailers to salvage companies without proof of ownership, if it is over 10 years old. When my auto was stolen last year I was told that there was a good chance it would also end up in Biscoe or somewhere like it.

Thieves can take almost anything they want and sell it for scrap without proving anything. It kills me that the scrap yard people know good and well that dude didn't own those trailers..........

The "Raleigh" people need to change/refine the law.

I'll bet it's that gol'durn POT that made them do it!! If they would've just stuck with the legal intoxicants, like a 1/2 gallon of whiskey...everything would've been just fine. We all know that getting drunk NEVER makes a person do crazy stuff. That goshdarn POT makes people so aggressive, while booze allows a person to make the correct decisions....[/end sarcasm].

way to go leftfield-

actually, im sure the reason this helpess individual had to resort to crime is because he fells like he doesn't get enough handouts as it is from you bleeding heart liberals - so he just HAS to steal... maybe if you hippies would just give him what he wants, i mean needs, then he'll stop stealing?

I think someone needs to investigate DH Griffin for accepting 12 trailers from the same individual in a month. Where did they think he was getting them from? How could they have thought he had the legal right to dispose of 12 trailers in a month???? Lots of questions here....will wait for answers.
