On Thursday, the Whispering Pines Police Department and the Pinehurst Police Department reported itinerant merchants going door to door attempting to sell magazine subscriptions and soliciting donations. In both Whispering Pines and Pinehurst, the salespeople did not have the proper permits to operate in these communities.

The code of ordinances for the town of Southern Pines prohibits this type of solicitation without a valid business license. In the event these transient vendors are observed operating in Southern Pines, residents are asked to report this activity to the police by calling (910) 692-7031.
