Roberts Takes Title in TW-First Tee Event

It was a pretty good week on the golf course for teenager Cody Roberts.

Cody, the son of Seven Lakes Country Club head professional Gene Roberts, placed third in the Moore County Men’s Amateur played at Seven Lakes last weekend, and then posted a 2-over-par 73-73—146 to win the Championship Flight of the Tin Whistles-First Tee Tour event held at Pinewild Country Club.

Brandon Mawyer, of Whispering Pines, took second, shooting matching rounds of 77-77 to finish eight strokes back. Jacob Sauer was third with 156.

Corey Whitten, from Bennett, won the “B” Blue flight by one shot over Pembroke’s Austin Locklear with a 36-hole total of 163. Zac Lassiter, of Knightdale, finished third with 167.

Chandler Keck, of Albemarle, shot 92-78—170 to win the “C” Blue Flight. There was a tie for second with Justin Chavis, of Pembroke, and Kirby Moffitt, of Asheboro, finishing a shot back at 171. Southern Pines’ Nicholas Tarr finished third at 172.

Austin Scarboro, of Pinebluff, won the White Tee Flight with 87-82—169, a one-stroke victory over Cary’s Barrett Fitzmorris. Cal Parsons, of Pinehurst, was third with 181.

Pinehurst’s John Rea won the Gold Tee Flight with a 74-84—158. Jay Andrew, of Albemarle, was second with 172 and Gray Linzel, of Southern Pines, was third.

The Girls’ Red Tee Flight was won by Pinehurst’s Caroline Rea, who shot 80-91—171. Savannah Thompson, of West End, was second with 180, and Abby Parsons, of Pinehurst, finished third.

The Boys’ 11-and-Under 9-Hole Red Tee Flight was won by Drew Viney-Sinsley, of Pinehurst, with a two-day total of 81. Jared Robinson, also of Pinehurst, shot 88 and finished second. Carthage’s Dalton Wheeless was third with 91.

The 11-and-Under Girls’ Orange Tee Flight was won by Cali Morfin, of West End. She shot 102 to finish four strokes ahead of Southern Pines’ Jaclyn Kenzel. Destiny Griffin, of Aberdeen, was third.

The 11-and Under-Boys’ Orange Tee A Flight was won by Carthage’s Ethan Waters with a two-day total of 97. Finishing second with 108 was Dalance Locklear, of Pembroke. Jonathan Kenzel, of Southern Pines, was third with 110.

The 11-and-Under Boys’ Orange B Flight was won by Southern Pines’ Carson Burney with 103. Garrett Kane, of Pinehurst, was second with 116 and West End’s Caleb Whitaker was third with 120.

The final event of the Tin Whistles-First Tee Junior Tour will be held Monday and Tuesday on Pinehurst Country Club’s No. 6 Course.
