Pinecrest opened its football season Friday with a convincing 38-0 win over visiting Enloe.
The Patriots roared out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back in claiming the non-conference victory.
Pinecrest used touchdown runs by Damion Pride and Raphael Alston, and a fumble return for a score by D. J. Simpson to take its halftime lead.
Alston and Pride combined for 105 yards rushing in the first half.
In the second half, the Patriots pushed its lead to 38-0 in the third quarter, highlighted by a 52-yard field goal from Dillon Maples.
Both teams emptied the benches in the scoreless fourth quarter.

I've talked with a few people who know a lot more about football than I do and the general concensus is that Pinecrest should do well in the non-conference, but will struggle with conference games this year. They seem to be younger and more inexperienced. I guess we'll see how it goes. The public sure seems to be under Coach Metzger's spell, though.

Coach Metzger has brought PRIDE back to the football program. This home win is a great start to the 2010 season and I expect this team will surprise some people this year.
Way to go guy's. You're winners, all of you.
GO PATRIOTS!!

Member,
Ok I have read and followed pretty much all of the stories regarding football programs in the county, including PCHS. It seems that you always have something negative to say against Coach Metzger. What is your problem with him? He and his coaches have brought this program back to life.. The kids are doing amazing, but you keep bringing the negativity. What is your problem?

@ Surprised
I'm sorry-I though I was entitled to my opinion. I hope the football players do well and they win more than what people have been telling me they should this year. I'm not a big football follower, so it really isn't a big deal to me. It sounds like you follow the game much closer than I do. Good luck to them this year. I guess we will see how it goes.

@ Surprised--
By the way, I didn't "bring any negativity" to the table. If you thought that being under his spell was a bad thing, then maybe you're not a big fan either. He seems to have charmed the entire area into believing PHS (not PCHS) can do whatever they believe they can. That's not entirely a bad thing. Some school spirit seems to be in order anyway.
So the next time you express frustration about someone's opinion, you might want to take a deep breath and make sure you aren't putting any personal feelings into it. Just take it for what it says.
I will try to do my part by not mentioning anything about the football staff at PHS from now on so as not to upset you.

This team will do just fine this year.
The defense looked good. The DBs looked good. #8 stepped up, he can hit! The LBs adjusted well to the misdirection.
The offense may gel and be fine. The fumbles were bad, really bad, pinecrest got lucky by keeping most of them. The starting RB's are awesome, no drop off at all from last year. Those two will combine for close to 2000 yards. There are 5 or 6 others that will be fighting for 3rd quarter minutes and clean up minutes in blowouts.
Good hands by the big TE. awesome play call and execution, but someone needs to step up to be the go to guy at WR.
The kicker is D1 material nuff said.
Obviously, losing Baldwin and Utley were huge but all teams lose a lot every year. I don't see a drop off from last year, but it's only been one game. The schedule is easy. Richmond is the only team that will be difficult to beat. The rest of the SEC should be pretty even. Lumberton crushed us last year and they should be better, so they get the edge. Scotland and Sweat are both good, we split with them. Hoke we should beat along with all the scrubs we play OOC. 8-3 and another trip to the playoffs.
