North Moore lost its home opener to The O'Neal School 4-1 in cross-county soccer action Wednesday.

The Falcons (2-0) — winless last season — scored a flurry of goals in the second half to run away from the Mustangs (0-1). Charlie Thompson led O'Neal's scoring attack with two goals.

O'Neal took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Thompson cashed in on a pass from Rick Catania and never looked back. Thompson scored again at the 64-minute mark, this time off an assist from Jacob Talbert.

Less than 90 seconds later, O'Neal's Stephen Chamberlain added another goal. About a minute after that, Bryce Baldelli scored off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.

Angel Luna scored the Mustangs' only goal with about 12 minutes left in the game.

Both teams will be back in action Friday. O'Neal is on the road facing Gaston Christian School, while North Moore is hosting Jordan-Matthews in its first-ever Friday night boys' soccer game.
