Pat Kickers Bested in Opener
Pinecrest's boys' soccer team fell 3-2 to New Hanover in its season-opening match played at Fayetteville Academy Tuesday.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when Kevin Grasso scored off an assist from Taylor Morton. New Hanover evened the score at 1-1 just three minutes later.
It stayed that way until the Wildcats' Joel Reyes found the back of the Patriot net from about 30 yards away with 14 minutes remaining in the match.
About three minutes later, the Patriots were shocked again on a long distance goal by Jordan Gruber, making it 3-1. A Gray Anderson goal closed the gap to 3-2 with six minutes remaining. The Patriots threatened several more times before time expired.
The Patriots entertain Leesville Road in their home opener on Thursday.
