Second Man Arrested in S.P. Robbery

A Southern Pines man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a Dean Avenue apartment in June, police said.

Police arrested James Naquan Douglas, Jr., 20, Thursday and charged with assaulting a handicapped person, first- degree burglary, larceny of a firearm, robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping.

Douglas is being held at the Moore County Detention Center on $30,000 secured bond.

According to the incident report, Southern Pines police officers responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Dean Avenue about 8:25 p.m. June 22 for a report of someone entering the residence and robbing two victims at gunpoint.

The victims were a 23-year-old female and a 30-year-old disabled male. A suspect, armed with a handgun, forcibly entered the residence and assaulted the male victim, according to the report.

Police seized several items, including a T-shirt, a 9-mm handgun, drug paraphernalia and a .22-caliber rifle that was reported stolen and then recovered.

Within hours of the burglary, police arrested Harold Chandler, 18, of Southern Pines, and charged him with assaulting a handicapped person, first- degree burglary, kidnapping, larceny of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a handgun by a minor.
