The 2010 MANNA! On The Links Golf Tournament will be held on Sept. 27, at National Golf Club, 1 Royal Troon Drive, Pinehurst.

The format will be a scramble (captain’s choice) with three divisions: men, ladies and mixed.

The player entry fee is $100 per person. Players and sponsors can sign up by contacting Sandi Mardigian by phone at (910) 235-0969, by e-mail at cookie@nc.rr.com, or by mail at 39 Edinburgh Lane, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

This fundraiser will begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration, boxed lunch, silent auction, and the sale of raffle tickets, 55/50 and mulligans.

The shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m. The event will end with refreshments, awards and a cash bar.

Tournament sponsorships are available. The sponsor fees are Eagle — $750, Birdie — $500, Par — $250, and Hole — $100.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is the first donor in a new major sponsor category, which involves a contribution of at least $1,500. MANNA! is also looking for donations for the silent auction and prizes.

According to a spokesman, the names of Eagle, Birdie and Par sponsors will be posted on professionally made signs placed at the National clubhouse. Hole sponsor names will be shown on professional made signs at a green or tee. In addition, the names of individual or company sponsors will appear in the next MANNA! newsletter mailed to more than 1,000 supporters and in a “Thank You” ad in The Pilot after the event.

MANNA! is an ecumenical and community effort to feed the hungry of Moore County by providing free nourishing meals in a safe, warm and caring environment, free of charge to anyone who comes seeking nourishment regardless of age, sex, race, financial qualifications or religious beliefs.

A nonprofit organization, MANNA! prepares and serves more than 600 lunches a week at seven Moore County sites: Spaulding Chapel, Taylortown (Tuesdays); Trinity AME Zion Church, Southern Pines (Wednesdays), Word of Truth Christian Center, Vass (Wednesdays), Love Grove Free Will Baptist Church, Jackson Hamlet (Thursdays), Page United Methodist Church, Aberdeen (Thursdays), and Seventh Day Adventist Church, Southern Pines (Fridays), and John Hall Presbyterian, Carthage (Fridays).

Presently, more than 200 people representing 15 partner churches and 10 community organizations prepare the lunches and transport them to the seven serving sites.

At the golf tournament, MANNA! will celebrate two special milestones — its fifth anniversary of operation and the serving its 100,000th meal, both of which will occur at the time of the benefit.

Anyone who wishes to support MANNA! in its mission to feed the hungry of Moore County may send contributions to P.O. Box 1081, Southern Pines, NC 28388-1081.
