A local woman will try to outwit, outplay and outlast the competition during the upcoming season of the "Survivor" reality show.
Jane Hammett Bright, 56, of Jackson Springs, is among the contestants on the CBS show "Survivor: Nicaragua."
Bright, a dog trainer from Jackson Springs, is the oldest female among the 20-member cast that will be vying for $1 million. The show debuts Sept. 15.
CBS announced the cast on Monday. Bright will be a member of the Espada Tribe, made up of individuals over the age of 40. It will compete with the La Flor Tribe, which consists of 10 members 30 and younger.
The show is billed as a "Battle of the Ages," and this is the first year the tribes have been divided by age.
In her biography for the show, Bright said her hobbies are snow and water skiing. She lists her pet peeves as lazy people. She said she applied to be on "Survivor" to "win America over."
In a promotion video on the show's website, Bright described herself as "not a typical woman," and as someone who isn't afraid to do things.
"Within the first challenge on the first day, I think they are going to say, 'Wow, she is one we need to keep around," Bright said in the video. "She's the person who does everything."
Describing herself as one person who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, Bright said she grew up in South Carolina and played with boys.
"We swung on vines, played in the woods and caught crawdads," she said.
Bright owns Shadow Hill Kennel and Farm. For more than three decades, the kennel's dogs - mostly Shetland sheepdogs - have won multiple awards at shows across the United States.
In February, one of her dogs, a Shetland sheepdog named Shadow Hill's Star Chaser, won Best of Breed t the Westminster Dog Show.
North Carolina is well represented on this year's show. There is a contestant from Durham and another from Fairview.
This year's cast also features Jimmy Johnson, an NFL broadcaster for Fox Sports and a former head football coach who has won championships in college and the pros. Johnson, 67, is the oldest male contestant
"I hope I am going to kick some butt," Bright said in her video. "I know I am going to kick some butt."
